Welcome Friends and Family!

Thanks for visiting our wedding site/blog.  Now that the wedding is over we will be putting up photos and mementos from our honeymoon and the big day.

We want to share as much of the wedding as we can with everyone who couldn't to make it to Durham, so this blog will hopefully be the next best thing!

Thanks again to everyone who shared well-wishes and love for us.  We've never felt so special and loved as we did on that day and we have all of our friends and family to thank.

-Younoki & Nathan

P.S.
If you've stumbled on our blog from the wedding blog world you're welcome to take a look around, we don't mind :)

and at some point I'll be getting all of the gently used and left-over wedding supplies together and putting them up for sale so check back if you might be in the market for wedding-y things.  I'd really hate to just toss it all so we're trying to reduce, reuse, recycle!

Honeymoon: Day 1 Adventure

Avenida Quinta

After relaxing at the hotel we took a stroll on Fifth Avenue in Playa, it's sort of like the Bourbon Street of the Yucatan.  Lots of nice shops, restaurants and of course, the beach.  We didn't do too much shopping at all on the trip but we picked up some essentials: sunglasses, sunblock and dorky hats to keep the sun off of our faces.

Sunglasses? Check.  Sunblock? Check.  Grandpa Hat?  Check!

The ferry was complete with a band and cervesas!

After meeting up with our guide at the dive shop we made our way to the ferry to Cozumel.  This part of town was really bustling and I sort of wish we'd spent more time here but we had to hurry to catch our ride to the island.

We snorkeled three different locations off of the coast in Cozumel, there were lots of fish everywhere.  I think they were really used to people because they were not afraid of us at all.  They even give the tourists food to feed the fish.  They handed some of it to me and then I looked down and realized it was a tortilla!

I was really afraid since I've never snorkeled before but the wetsuit really helped.  I still never got the hang of dealing with water coming down the snorkel so I stayed at the surface with all the kids.  Luckily for me there was plenty to see since the water was so clear and we were in the shallow parts.  The view of the reef could have been better but I was taking baby steps :)

We had reservations for our dinner at Alux, a restaurant in a cave in town.  It was really cool, there were stalagmites and stalactites all through the cave and one part of it was even a nightclub, although we were too tired to even think about dancing.

And how could we pass up flambe dessert.  The waiter put on a great show for us with plenty of fire.  It was funny, right after he did the show 3 other tables ordered the same thing :)

After dinner we drove from Playa del Carmen to Tulum.  This day was packed with things for us to do, and every single thing we did was gifted to us.  So thanks so much everyone!  Breakfast in our room, shopping in town, snorkeling, dinner in a cave and the wonderful first night at La Tortuga were all amazing!

All in all, it was a lot for the first day so we went straight to bed in Tulum so we could wake up bright and early for day 2.
